Cheating and more

Students, especially overseas students, sitting exams in some specific subjects here, have been caught cheating recently. All the students who were caught cheating were of Indian origin.

And the explanation that they and their trainers (incidentally, another Indian) could come up with was:
a) It’s part of the Indian culture
b) It’s an acceptable practice in India.

EXCUSE ME?

But then, why am I surprised? There was this wife-beater a few years ago here who tried to justify his 'habit' saying that it was a culturally acceptable practice in India.

And there was another man who tried to justify killing his wife. His reason? She was having an affair with a Pakistani man, ie, the enemy. So he was actually being patriotic by killing her.

And there was this guy in front of me in the Immigration office, asking if he could get his visa stamped in the NZ office itself instead of taking it back to India, as "India is bad, nothing works properly there and nothing gets done on time", he said in his pigdin English.

BLOODY SLIMEBALLS!

Do you have a link to this piece of news? It just sounds bizarre. I think it's one of those media thingies where if it's about India, it must be made to sound terrible. Just like a few years ago, there was 1 Indian techie abroad who owned a company, and was caught for fraud. Needless to say the news had stuff to say like 'He grew up in a country mired with corruption etc'.. as if that was the reason he did it.
My blood was boiling to say the least..

Hey guys, this is no news item, it is all info first hand, from the horse's mouth to me. And yes, the Indian trainer of these cheating students actually said that this sort of thing is culturally tolerated and accepted in India. Maybe that's how the trainer got his quals in the first place. Wonder what India he is talking about. It certainly wasn't tolerated or encouraged where I come from!

Hi,

I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be very good.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘Musings and More ’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

Cheers,
Ray

Ray: Thanks for that.

Akka: Yes, shocking isn't it? I would to slap each of those idiots and tell them not to blame their country for their lack of morals.

Shame, being an Indian, I didn't know cheating and beating are part of Indian culture... Perhaps many aren't as patriotic or culturally enlightened the people involved.

As for the guy in front of you at immigration office - what he said is true, so no comments there, BUT IMHO, one who doesn't involve himself in keeping the house clean shouldn't really complain about the house being shabby. Unless he's ready to work towards making India better in any way, he better not be complaining.

Nice Conclusion -- Bloody Slimeballs, Parasites and Chameleons.
