Hope that doesn't mean Vidya will be 'Vi' :) Nobody has ever called me that until now, btw :) (guess that's just for western names)..

Gee, we shorten Indian names too! Rums, Shobs, Brin, Vaish, etc :)

Yeah, a lot of times I myself sign in mails/blog comments as vid. Most common abbrev. for my name has been vidu though. True we do it to Indian names too.. just that we're so used to it that we wont notice it.. like calling an anuradha or anupama 'anu' or calling someone called shyamala 'shyam' :) ;)

Well, I guess anyone, Indian or Western, can shorten their names. It is how they do it that is a different.
Shyam: Never said we don't shorten Indian names :) - I mean, look at me, Gee!!!! Just tossed those names into the blog as they were ones I heard that day....

Don't jump to conclusions - I wasn't even thinking of you - I had only Princess Di in mind - and anyways, how on earth would I know that you call yourself Di or even D? Relax sister....
