Fact and fiction

Am reading The Ramayana by Ashok Banker (have finished Prince of Ayodhya, now onto Siege of Mithila). While this post isn't a review, guess where we found it in the library - in the science fiction section........I ask you - science fiction.......

science I agree- fiction - no comments. think of the pushpak viman, cures for infertility, advanced artillery, not to forget the bridge as mentioned by banana.. I am sure that era was extremely advanced in science

Banana: It is v.contemporary- he de-glamourises all teh characters and they are portrayed as totally human. Definitely interesting.

Itching: WElcome.
Yes, there is a lot of science in it, but fiction? IF you agree with banana abt the bridge, then would you still say it is fiction?

Have been wanting to read it.

Banana: MY personal view is that we need to remember that a lot of what is said is allegorical in the epics. And if you do read Banker's interpretation, then you will know that a stone is so much more than a stone;)

Mumbaigirl: Hi, long time.
I've read the first three books, and I can say that if I can get a hold of those books, I will be reading the other three too...

Well then, I shall try and get my library to get them for me. As am currently too skint to buy them.
Was silent for some time as was engulfed by other matters.
